Lifestyle Photography ~ It's a Thing!

We are adding a new category to our CIPPA Image Competitions - Lifestyle! What is considered lifestyle photography? According to Wikipedia, the definition of lifestyle photography is “a style of portrait/people photography which aims to capture and document real-life events, situations, or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday”. Lifestyle is not as controlled as portrait photography or as unscripted as photojournalism. It gives us the chance to create photographs of people in real life, with the ability to direct the action, and edit the image. Imagery will not be as polished or meticulously created as a studio or environmental portrait, and not as restricted as photojournalism where there should be no interaction with the subject. We can direct, help pose, move, light, interact with the subjects; and edit, alter, add, and delete in post-production. Subjects are almost unlimited: families, kids, sports, hobbies, careers, jobs, service, metro, rural, or pieces of life - it doesn't have to be a person! .... The images should be compositionally pleasing, tell a story, and work with the 12 elements. This will be a challenging and fun category for both entrants and judges alike!
