Monthly Critiques Judges Instructions

1. Initial Review

All images in each category are first displayed silently for the judge to view as a group.

2. Individual Image Review

Images are then shown one at a time:

  • The Digital Coordinator announces the image title.

  • The judge studies the image and provides critique.

  • For assigned topics, the judge may determine an image does not meet the theme.

    • If moved to Open, the image cannot receive a Merit.

  • The judge comments on:

    • Technical execution

    • Artistic merit

    • Creativity

    • Presentation

    • Opportunities for improvement

  • The judge assigns a score (5–10).

  • Images scoring 8, 9, or 10 receive a Merit, and the maker’s name is announced.

  • All merited images advance to the Annual Awards.

Judges may ask the maker a question during review.
Members must wait until judging is complete before asking questions or offering comments.

All judging decisions are final.
