Program Overview

  • Expert Presentations – During non-competition months, we have a guest speaker who is an expert in a specific area. Like B&W processing, HDR Processing, or Studio lighting for impact. They typically do a presentation, show samples, and illustrate their workflow. Presentations are Zoom events that enable us to recruit experts from across the country. Usually, we have 7 or 8 presentations a year.

  • Competitions: CCP Image Competitions are held quarterly on Zoom. Zoom Competitions enable us to recruit a judging panel from across the US.  They are judged by a panel of 3 PPC or PPA-certified judges. (Professional Photographers of California or America Certified Judges)

    • Peer Image Review Meeting – A Zoom meeting for members to provide feedback on images they intend to share in an upcoming competition.

    • Quarterly Image Competition – Judges review and score images in advance. During the competition, the judges provide the artist with constructive criticism. If the judges' scores are more than 10 points apart, the judges will discuss the image in more depth, trying to convince each other of their perspective, and then the image is rescored. We have 4 peer reviews and Image competitions a year.

  • Monthly Critiques: CCP Monthly Critiques are held both in person and on Zoom, Dates and topics can be found on the events calendar. During the meeting, an independent guest judge reviews all images anonymously and provides constructive feedback.Images are scored on a 5–10 scale, and any image scoring 8, 9, or 10 earns a Merit.

    • Peer Review Meeting - A zoom meeting will be held in advance for members to share their images with their peers for constructive feedback before the critique.

    • Monthly Critique - Members can enter either an open category or a monthly themed category posted on the website. During the meeting, an independent guest judge reviews all images anonymously and provides constructive feedback. Images are scored on a 5–10 scale, and any image scoring 8, 9, or 10 earns a Merit.

  • Tech Talks - Are forums for interactive discussion on a specific topic. Tech Talks can be related to an upcoming outing, safari, or workshop. They are hosted by a member or a guest who facilitates the sharing of information and ideas. It's a great way to learn from each other about techniques, tools, or to prepare for an upcoming outing. Typically, we host 6 to 8 TechTalks a year.

  • Outings are one-day events in our area where we visit the beach, attend local events, visit one of the nearby islands, visit a botanical garden, or capture unique architectural structures. Typically, we have about 8 outings a year.

  • Safaris - are multi-day outings to places like Yosemite, Death Valley, the Eastern Sierra, or Laguna Seca during a race weekend, where we share photo experiences, enjoy the scenery, and work on new techniques. Typically, we have about 2 to 4 Safaris a year.

  • Workshops - can be one- or multi-day events where an expert workshop leader conducts a program in a specific area of interest to members. A recent example is where we had a recognized Macro Photography tell us about his work, illustrate his workflow, and then assist participants in a hands-on exercise on posing, capturing, and Photoshop processing.  Typically, we have 2 or 3 workshops a year.
